Nation’s Rig Count Tumbled by 7 while Oklahoma Added 2 in Past Week

Oklahoma’s oil and gas rig count increased by two in the past week to reach 63 while the nation’s count fell by 7, settling at 443, according to figures released by Baker Hughes Company of Houston, Texas. Oklahoma and New Mexico were the only two regional states to add working rigs over the past week.

The Oklahoma Count compares to 124 rigs one year ago. Nationally, the count included a loss of 8 more oil rigs in the past week while the gas rig count grew by one to reach 89. In the past year, the U.S. oil and gas rig count has tumbled 545 from 988 reported last year at this time. Over the time period, the loss has included 406 oil rigs and 136 gas rigs.

The nation’s offshore rig count dropped by one to reach 25. In Canada, the count tumbled by 8 to 41.

Oklahoma’s oil plays remained steady. The Mississippian stayed at 5 rigs while the count in the Granite Wash remained at 4. The Wood

   fords have a total of 6 rigs compared to the 14 working rigs a year ago. The Permian Basin in west Texas remains the nation’s strongest oil and gas play with 142 working rigs, a decline of 3 in the past week. The Eagle Ford added one rig to reach 43.

The count in energy producing states includes 17 in Colorado, which is the same as a week ago; 5 in Kansas, a drop of one; Louisiana stayed at 47; North Dakota lost two to reach 27; New Mexico added one to hit 17 and Texas dropped 7 working rigs to reach 197.
