Chesapeake Settles More Fort Worth Lawsuits in Royalty Fight

Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy has reached settlements in more of the trials scheduled in Fort Worth in legal fights over claims the company cheated thousands out of millions of dollars in natural gas royalties.

At least 22,000 plaintiffs had made the accusations against Chesapeake and in the past week, trials scheduled for some of the plaintiffs on April 25 and May 23 were settled out of court. It is believed the company is in negotiations with many others who sued, claiming Chesapeake wrongly withheld post-production costs from royalties.

Still ahead for Chesapeake is at least eight other cases set to go to trial in June.
