OERB’s Well Site Safety Day at the Capitol

The Oklahoma Energy Resources Board’s annual Well Site Safety day will be Tuesday as children from across the state are educated about the dangers of playing around oil and gas wells.

The day will begin with a poster parade and a legislator meet and greet at the State Capitol at 10 a.m. OERB will also announce the winners of its annual Well Site Safety Competition involving more than 5,000 Oklahoma children, grades K-6, who participate in coloring and poster contests. Twenty-one winners will be honored by state legislators during the ceremonies.

The OERB offers free educational resources to teachers and students from elementary school through the collegiate level. By providing free curricula, training, materials, educational trips and in-class presentations, the OERB helps Oklahoma teachers reach more students through engaging activities and experiments.

Part of the organization’s education program includes the Well Site Safety Awareness initiative which is an annual campaign that educates students about the risks associated with playing around well sites. With thousands across the state, and with more children heading outdoors to explore as spring arrives, the group’s goal is to ensure fellow citizens know to avoid well sites and oilfield equipment.
