Inhofe Says US Purchase of Iran’s Heavy Water is Wrong

Oklahoma U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe says the U.S. should not be “rewarding bad behavior” by spending nearly $9 million to purchase 32 tons of heavy water from Iran in order to help the country comply with the Iran Nuclear Deal.

The senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee continues to be critical of the agreement that also resulted in huge amounts of Iranian oil flooding the world markets causing oil prices to tumble.

“Iran’s failure to comply with the deal made by the Obama administration to reduce Iran’s nuclear stock pile is not surprising,” said Inhofe. “Nor is it surprising that the Obama administration intends to purchase 32 tons of heavy water from Iran to help the country meet its end of the bargain.”

He said Americans continued to lose “in this bad deal while Iran gains” and that Americans have a right to be outraged as their money is being used to support the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.

“The only way to not fund terrorism is to not negotiate with terrorists which is exactly what the Obama administration did when it evaded the Constitution’s requirement of Senate involvement with major international treaties and entered into a so-called ‘Deal’ with Iran,” added Inhofe.
