Record Solar Power Projects to Be Installed Nationally in 2016

While Whole Foods announced recently it intended to power more than 100 of its stores through solar roof-top panels, it has yet to confirm if it will involve its three stores in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Contacted about the project, Tobias Markey, the marketing team Leader at the Whole Foods Market in Oklahoma City said, “The project logistics and roll-out are still being determined at this early stage but we look forward to announcing specific regions and store locations in the coming months.”

The announcement by the Austin, Texas-based company comes as the U.S. solar market is expected to see record 119-percent growth this year, according to GTM Research.

The firm said in the U.S. Solar Market Insight Report 2015 Year in Review that 16 GW of solar will be installed in the U.S. in 2016 which will more than double the record- breaking 7.3 GW installed in 2015.

The federal investment Tax Credit was set to expire at the end of the year, and apparently prompted developers to pursue projects that would come online in 2016.

GTM’s report indicated that Colorado, Massachusetts and Minnesota will install more than 100 MW of community solar this year.
