Pipeline Spill Leads to EPA Fine Against Williams Division in West Virginia

While Williams Cos. in Tulsa was dealing with the fallout from its merger with Energy Transfer Equity, one of its subsidiaries in West Virginia was being fined $14,440 by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA announced the fine on Wednesday against Williams Ohio Valley Midstream after 132 barrels of natural gas components spilled last year during a pipeline break in West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle. The break occurred in the city of Moundsville and published reports indicted the spill flowed into three waterways including a tributary of the Ohio River.

The EPA said the fine will go into a federal trust fund to be used for oil spill cleanups.
