OKC Tops for Women Business Leaders

Oklahoma City is known as an oil city but now a new national report ranks it number one for female entrepreneurs to live and work, according to Merchant Cash USA in conjunction with Women’s History Month.

The report listed Oklahoma City tops for women business leaders and operators because of the city’s low cost of living, low jobless rate and revitalization of the city.

Merchant Cash USA conducted the poll as part of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day and wanted to know what the best cities were for budding female entrepreneurs looking to operate a small business. The small business financial lender used 2015 census data from some of the most highly populated cities and ranked particular cities according to the cost of rent for a home or office space, number of small businesses per 10,000 people and the average unemployment rate per city.

While Oklahoma City was number one, San Antonio was second, Portland, Oregon was third, Des Moines, Iowa came in fourth and Houston, Texas was fifth. The final five were Atlanta, Georgia; Columbus, Ohio; Raleigh, North Carolina; Fresno, California; and Rochester, New York in that order.

“Oklahoma City is a mecca for young professionals and entrepreneurs who can excel at various industries in an area which is extremely friendly to the small business owner,” said Darrin Landau, CCO of Merchant Cash USA. “The cities on this list are great places to start a small business due to the cost of living and plethora of opportunities available.”
