AEP Oklahoma Transmission Company has announced plans to start construction soon on a $120 million transmission power line in western Oklahoma. AEP is an affiliate of Public Service Company of Oklahoma and will build the 60-mile long 3456-kilovolt line west of Elk City. Called the Western Oklahoma Transmission Reinforcement Project, work on surveying and right-of-way clearing will begin this spring along with construction of a new 345-kV Chisholm Substation.
The actual construction of the power line will begin at the new substation substation and continue east before turning southeast and crossing I-40 northeast of Sayre.
The announcement indicated the planned line will continue southeast toward Sentinel before turning east and connecting with the portion of the line being built by Oklahoma Gas and Electric northwest of the town of Mountain View. The restoration and work on the 60-mile line will be finished by the summer of 2018.
Agents working onthe right-of-way have held meetings with area landowners. The project will use single-pole steel structures in a 150-foot-wide right-of-way.
The project was ordered by the Southwest Power Pool which is a regional transmission organization responsible for overseeing the electric transmission grid in Oklahoma to address regional reliability issues.
