Major Pipeline Improvements at DTE Energy

Williams Cos. in Tulsa isn’t the only major pipeline firm making major investments. DTE Gas plans to spend $1.4 billion in its Michigan natural gas pipeline infrastructure in the coming five years.

The company plans to modernize its cast iron and steel main pipelines with newer and more durable material and also install new service lines to homes and businesses.

DTE said it will replace more than 100 miles of gas main lines this year, surpassing what it replaced in 2015 and the firm installed 80 miles of new gas main lines.

“Replacing older gas lines with the latest in pipeline material ensures that our natural gas system remains safe for our customers,” said Mark Stiers, DTE Gas President and Chief Operating Officer. “The key to maintaining a safe pipeline system is our regular inspections and maintenance of the lines.”

The company also intends to replace natural gas meters from inside homes and locate advanced meters on the outside as pat of the gas main modernizaton work.
