Engineers Assure OKC of Ability to Withstand Earthquakes

The jump in earthquakes across Oklahoma in recent years got the attention recently of members of the Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust. They wondered about engineering designs of water pipelines and water treatment plants and whether there should be concern about their ability to withstand earthquakes.

Tom Crowley, with Carollo Engineers, Inc, a subconsultant to Smith Roberts Baldischwilder, LLC, the current Water Trust Engineer gave a presentation on what the city could expect in the event of an earthquake the size of the 2011 quake that hit Prague. It was a 5.6 magnitude event.

Listen to Crowley’s presentation.
