Energy Downturn Results in Layoffs at Totalflow Plant in Bartlesville

The oil and gas downturn hits another Oklahoma company—Totalflow of Bartlesville.

The firm says it’s implemented a 5 percent cut in its workforce of 249 and will let go 13 workers. Totalflow is part of the international business group ABB Inc. where Melissa London, director of media relations said the company is also considering three possible one-week shutdowns of the plant if production demand doesn’t improve soon.

Totalflow manufactures measure and automation solution products for the North American Upstream Oil and Gas market. But the low oil and gas prices, the shutdown of hundreds of rigs nationally and the layoffs of thousands of workers has resulted in less demand for Totalflow productions made in Bartlesville. Not only is the company making the layoffs, it is also reducing overtime for some workers. If there is a total shutdown of the plant for some weeks, workers will be given the option of taking vacation time.

“The employees and management of ABB remain committed to serving our customers and the North American market through the team in Bartlesville,” said Gayle Lester, general manager of the Bartlesville based operation. “We look forward to a stronger economy in the months and years to come.”
