Eleven States Warned by EPA for Not Filing Clean Air Act Reports

Eleven states are getting a warning from the Environmental Protection Agency for not submitting plans to lower sulfur dioxide pollution in what are called nonattainment areas identified a few years ago by the EPA.

The notice was filed in the Federal Register and stated that the states failed to submit the State Implementation Plans or SIPs to satisfy certain planning requirements of the Clean Air Act for the primary sulfur dioxide National Ambient Air Quality Standard.

“These findings of failure to submit establish certain Clean Air Act deadlines for the EPA to impose sanctions if a state does not submit a SIP addressing those requirements and for the EPA to promulgate a Federal Implementation Plan to address any outstanding SIP requirements,” stated the notice.

The eleven states include Arizona, Montana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Hampshire.
