Rubio to Campaign at Devon Tower on Friday

In announcing Marco Rubio’s campaign appearance set for Friday in Oklahoma City, his campaign also confirmed that Larry Nichols, co-founder of Devon Energy Corp. is an energy advisor to the Florida U.S. Senator who’s hoping to pick up the Republican nomination.

Nichols will host a private fundraiser for Sen. Rubio on Friday afternoon at the Vast restaurant at the top of the 50-story Devon Tower in downtown Oklahoma City. He also serves as chairman of Rubio’s energy steering committee and has worked with the campaign since late last year.

“Larry is a fantastic and accomplished leader in the Oklahoma business community and in the energy sector nationwide,” said State Senator David Holt who is also the Oklahoma state chairman of the Rubio campaign. “It’s a very strong validation of Sen. Rubio’s potential and his views on energy in America.”

Nichols retired as Devon’s CEO in 2010 but continues to serve as executive chairman. In December, he contributed $50,000 to the conservative Solutions Super PAC affiliate with Sen. Rubio.

Nichols isn’t the first Oklahoma energy leader to get involved in politics. Four years ago, Harold Hamm, CEO and founder of Continental Resources was an energy advisor for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
