Harold Hamm Not Ready to Say Who He’ll Support in GOP Presidential Race

Don’t expect Oklahoma billionaire oilman Harold Hamm to spill the beans about who he’s supporting in the Presidential campaign. As Politico’s Morning Energy Report revealed Thursday, Hamm, the chairman and founder of Continental Resources based in Oklahoma City is staying neutral in the GOP primary “until the candidate list gets sorted out and down.”

He told Morning Energy he’s “candidate agnostic” but has not ruled out the possibility of backing current frontrunner Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump is a good business person. He understands the importance of energy in America,” said Hamm. “I have no concerns about Donald Trump.”

Four years ago, Hamm was a senior energy adviser to Mitt Romney who lost to President Obama. But a few weeks ago, he also attended a fundraiser for Sen. Marco Rubio.

The Florida Senator already has the support of another Oklahoma billionaire oilman, Larry Nichols, co-founder of Devon Energy.

As to Hamm’s future of leading certain energy and political fights, now that the oil export ban has been lifted, he’s not ready to jump into other big energy or political fights, at least immediately. He was chairman of the independent producer coalition Domestic Energy Producers Alliance.

“I’m not out here in search of a new mission,” explained Hamm. “That’s not what I do.”
