Dollar Gasoline Close at Hand in OKC

Closer and closer to $1 a gallon for gasoline in Oklahoma. Will it happen? The cheapest gasoline in the state, according to Gas Buddy is $1.06 in south Oklahoma City. And more than a dozen stations and convenience stores are pumping gasoline in Oklahoma City under $1.10 a gallon.

As of mid-day Friday, Gas Buddy reported the statewide average had tumbled to $1.30, down 13 cents in the past week.

Oklahoma City’s average was $1.27, a drop of 13 cents in the past week. But Gas Buddy reported on Thursday that one convenience store actually sold gasoline for $1.01 a gallon but the price didn’t last long and as of Friday, the store had prices back to $1.08 a gallon.

In Tulsa, the average was $1.25, down 9 cents over the past week. The cheapest gasoline in Tulsa was $1.09 a gallon.

The cheap prices in Oklahoma have the attention of The Fiscal Times which also raised the question of whether $1 a gallon gasoline was close at hand. It noted that Oklahoma appears to be enjoying the cheapest gasoline in the country while nationally, prices averaged $1.70 a gallon as of Friday.

But The Fiscal Times wasn’t giving up on the prospects of gasoline at a buck a gallon, predicting if oil prices drop to $20 per barrel, which is something that Goldman Sachs is not ruling out “$1 gasoline could become a lot more common.”
