Brockovich Pushes Legislature to Attack Earthquake Problem

Environmental activist Erin Brockovich took her anti-fossil fuel message to the state Capitol on Wednesday, hoping to influence legislators to take steps to end earthquakes that many believe are being caused by wastewater disposal wells. She is seeking legislation supported by some legislators including Rep. Richard Morrissette (D-OKC) who introduced Brockovich at a news conference.

“The legislation would be for enforcement to flow back and halt these billions of gallons of contaminated waterwater,” said Brockovich. “Most importantly is you’re gonna have to start providing for better enforcement, because they’re gonna be out there getting away with things anyway.”

She went after the energy industry in the state for polluting the state and causing the earthquakes.

“You have so much oil and gas industry here fracking and these billions and billions and billions of gallons of contaminated water being reinjected into these deep wells that’s causing this issue,” professed the woman whose life story was made into a movie starring Julia Roberts. “I would think the state would actually want to be concerned with that as well because you’re gonna be left with a lot of damage and a lot of issues you’re gonna have to deal with.”

On Tuesday, she spoke to nearly 500 who attended an earthquake forum on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
