Black smoke billowed over the sky near Chickasha late Wednesday afternoon as firefighters battle a blaze on a fracking site owned by Continental Resources. Our partners at KWTV News 9 reported the smoke from the fire closed all lanes at SH 39 and County Road 2910 and all lanes from County Road 2940 west of Highway 62. Explosions could be heard during the fire. No injuries were reported.
Continental Resources issued a statement saying that the location is approximately three miles east of Chickasha. All crew members have been accounted for and are safe. The well is shut in.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
