Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s voicing confidence that a federal court stay will prevent the controversial Waters of the U.S. rule from being enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency during the year remaining in the Obama administration. It’s what he told a recent 2016 Farm and Ranch Forum hosted by the American Farmers and Ranchers group in Enid and in an interview with Ron Hays of the Radio Oklahoma Network’s Oklahoma Farm Report.
“What the President is trying to do in many incidents, is avoid that rule making process in order to accelerate these obligations and almost create the inevitability that they are going to happen, so people start complying, even though they are not law and they are not proper rules,” Pruitt told Hays.
The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals issued the stay last year after Pruitt and other attorneys general filed suit in August. Pruitt indicated the stay will keep the WOTUS from affecting the nation while the case is being argued in the courts.
