The planned OGE Energy Center in downtown Oklahoma City is now on hold according to a story written by The Oklahoman’s Steve Lackmeyer. The four, high-rise tower project was proposed for the site of Stage Center at Hudson and Sheridan has been canceled due to lower oil prices.
Lackmeyer provides a history of the project from the initial proposal as a two building set which featured a new headquarters for OGE Energy Corp. As oil prices rose above $100 a barrel, the project became more ambitious adding two more high-rise buildings.
Now that oil prices are nearing $30 a barrel and demand for downtown office space is slowing, OGE decided to put the project on hold. The company will keep the land until a developer can create a new project that makes good use of the area.
