The nation’s oil and gas rig count fell again last week while was one of the few states to see an increase, according to figures released by Baker Hughes Company of Houston, Texas. Nationally, the count slipped by 14 while Oklahoma added four rigs to reach 87 statewide. The U.S. count reached 650, a drop of 1,026 from the 1,676 rigs active one year ago. The national count of oil rigs fell by one to reach 515 while the number of gas rigs fell by 13 to hit 135.
In the past year, the number of oil rigs tumbled by 851 and the loss of gas rigs was 175.
Canada continued to add rigs, increasing its count by 61 to reach 227. It added 39 oil rigs and 22 gas rigs.
While Oklahoma added four rigs in the past week, Colorado slipped by two to reach 20. Kansas added one to hit 12. Louisiana fell by five to reach 54 and New Mexico lost two rigs and settled at 32. North Dakota’s count stood at 47, a loss of two while the state of Texas dropped seven rigs to reach 301. A year ago, there were 766 rigs in Texas.
Activity in the area oil plays was varied as the Woodfords in Oklahoma totaled eleven active rigs, compared to 13 a year ago. The Granite Wash added 2 to reach 14 compared to the 43 rigs a year ago. The Mississippian in northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas added one rig to reach 12 while a year ago, it had 68 active rigs. The Permian Basin in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico lost 7 rigs and fell to 202. The Eagle Ford in southern Texas dropped three to reach 68.
