More Quakes Around Fairview

Not quite a week after the Oklahoma Corporation Commission took steps to reduce operations of several wastewater injection wells around Fairview and Alva, northern Oklahoma was rattled Tuesday by six more earthquakes.

The total reduction by 18 percent of the injection well operations had yet to take effect when the strongest of the Tuesday quakes hit—a 4.2 magnitude quake around Fairview. The U.S. Geological Survey indicated the quake hit at 2:45 p.m. with an epicenter northwest of the city. Three hours later, a 3.0 magnitude quake hit the same area. Two other quakes rumbled through the region but they were weaker in strength. One measured 2.9 magnitude and the other was 2.6 magnitude.

Other quakes on Tuesday hit with Prague and it was a 2.8 magnitude quake at 6:41 a.m.

The other was near Mooreland located near Fairview. It was 2.6 magnitude and struck at 8:09 a.m.
