The oil and gas rig count in Oklahoma grew by four in the past week to a total of 208, according to the most figures released by Houston-based Baker Hughes. A year ago, Oklahoma’s count was 176 rigs.
Nationally, the rig count was up two to a total of 1,929 in the past week. Oil rigs dropped by 13 to 1,582 while the number of gas rigs increased by 14 to a total of 346.
But compared to a year ago when the rig count was 1,742, there are 187 more as of the past week. There are 206 more oil rigs but 14 fewer gas rigs.
Counts for adjacent and oil and gas-active states include 75 and unchanged for the current week in Colorado. But a year ago, Colorado’s rig count was 70. Kansas is at 26 rigs, an increase of five in the past week. A year ago at this time, Kansas had 25 active rigs.
New Mexico has 100 active rigs, a drop of three in the past week and 26 more compared to one year ago. Texas stands at 901, a loss of five rigs in the past week but still far more than the 821 rigs reported one year ago.
North Dakota is at 180 rigs and unchanged over the past week but 17 more than last year at this time.
A review of some of the oil plays shows six active rigs, an increase of one, the the Ardmore Woodford; five in the Arokoma Woodford which is a drop of one rig; and 23 in the Barnett, an increase of one. The Cana Woodford is at 38, an increase of one. The DJ-Niobrara is unchanged at 62 while the Eagle Ford grew by two to 218. The Permian is at 562, down six rigs while the Mississippian is at 78, an increase of five.
